Lakers Hopeful LeBron Will Finally Return on Thursday

A source familiar with James' rehab told ESPN's Dave McMenamin that the Lakers are "hoping" James could return to game action against the Los Angeles Clippers on Thursday at Staples Center.

LeBron James hasn't spoken publicly in about a month, but his camp certainly has an opinion on Lakers coach Luke Walton's future.

According to reports, LeBron's camp is now making it clear that Luke Walton isn't the long term answer for head coach.

"We'll see how his body responds to [scrimmages]", Walton said. The head coach also echoed James' agents' comments and suggested that his forward is likely to return once he feels healthy enough. James has missed the last 15 games and the Lakers have a 5-10 record having dropped from fourth in the West to ninth.

He said it would be up to the medical staff to decide when James would play, although he won't suit up when the team faces Phoenix on Sunday, which will mark his 16th game on the sidelines.

When asked about Davis' requesting a trade and his thoughts if the Lakers were to land Davis, Ingram replied, "That'll be good for the Lakers - or whatever team that gets him". James' is expected to change that before his tenure with the Los Angeles franchise comes to an end.

Los Angeles is 25-24 and just outside of playoff contention.

"We'll see how he feels tonight, see how he feels tomorrow morning".

The Lakers signed James to a four-year, $153.3million contract in July. "If it's just taken longer to get back then it's just taken longer to get back". At the same time, they don't want to rush him back, especially not from a groin strain, which can be pesky if it isn't allowed to heal fully.

"Even the Lakers' latest statement on this - they made a statement that he is going to practice in a week", Windhorst said.
