LG, Sony, and Vizio announce TVs with AirPlay 2 support

LG, Sony, and Vizio announce TVs with AirPlay 2 support

The announcement shows how much Apple is changing, and how it's working closer with one-time rivals to bring its services to more people.

Not to be outdone, LG has now confirmed that it, too, will be supporting AirPlay 2 and HomeKit in its smart TV lineup as well. By adding micro LED modules, users can expand their display to any size they desire. Samsung smart TV owners will now be able to access their existing iTunes libraries and buy or rent other movies and TV shows directly from their TVs without having to use an Apple device such as an Apple TV.

And similar to Vizio, LG at CES earlier today also announced a new partnership with Apple that will see support for AirPlay 2 and HomeKit on its 2019 line of smart TVs.

For Apple's streaming services to flourish, the company has to look beyond Apple TV, which has struggled to compete in the living room with Amazon, Roku, Google (GOOGL) and TV manufacturers. While Vizio and Samsung both suggest that the AirPlay 2 update for their current connected TVs should roll out in the spring of 2019, there is no official release date as of yet, so don't be surprised if it takes a little longer.

What do you think of Apple adding AirPlay 2 support to all these different devices?

The Samsung deal is the second time in recent months in which Apple has made a pact with another technology company to land its services on their devices.

While Samsung said that the iTunes Movies and TV Shows app will only be available on its smart TVs, Apple has set smart TV streaming tech deals with other companies this week. The division - which also houses the App Store and Apple Pay, as well as Apple Music and iCloud subscriptions - brought in $10 billion in revenue last quarter. Now thats smart. Leading TV manufacturers are integrating AirPlay 2 directly into their TVs, so now you can effortlessly share or mirror nearly anything from your iOS device or Mac directly to your AirPlay 2–enabled smart TV.

Apple hasn't announced it yet, but it's largely expected to launch a TV service that combines free and paid content later this year.
