President Trump calls Rep. Rashida Tlaib's comments

At an event to celebrate her new role in the House of Representatives, Tlaib told a crowd of supporters in reference to the former business mogul that "we're going to impeach the motherf*cker". The president drew major applause when telling supporters that rather than politely mention tariffs to Chinese officials, he would prefer to be more direct and say, "Listen, you motherfuckers, we're going to tax you 25%".

A spokesman said in a statement that Tlaib was elected to shake up Washington and "absolutely" believes Trump should be impeached. She didn't back down Friday, tweeting that "I will always speak truth to power".

"How do you impeach a president who has won perhaps the greatest election of all time, done nothing wrong" and has had the "most successful two years of any president", Trump tweeted.

California Rep. Brad Sherman and Texas Rep. Al Green introduced articles of impeachment against Trump on Thursday, the first day of the new Congress.

CNN posted a love letter to freshly sworn-in Rep. Rashida Tlaib by Claire Foran yesterday afternoon, a few hours before Tlaib celebrated with a not quite quotable quote (video below).

More than Tlaib's profanity, it was her vow to impeach Trump that drew her colleagues' disapproval.

In interviews with Politico, several of Tlaib's fellow Democrats were critical as well.

Newly elected Democrat Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib has a sticky note with the word "Palestine" placed over the state of Israel on a map of the Middle East hung in her D.C. congressional office. Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-Mo.), a pastor, cried out "Jeez, no!" he said when told of her comments. Because that kind of language isn't the status quo (in public) in Washington, and therefore using it signals that a person isn't planning on maintaining that status quo.

The new congresswoman called for Trump's impeachment in a Detroit Free Press op-ed Thursday, and did so again using very different language that night, ABC News reports.

The impeachment process would further require the consent of both the House and two-thirds of the Senate, which is still a Republican majority. Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) said that it was much too early to talk about impeachment "intelligently", and that her vulgarity was inappropriate. "It doesn't reflect the caucus, and I'm sure upon reflection, she might choose other words to describe her feelings". "I think the office of the presidency should be treated with respect".
