Russian Federation asks U.N. Security Council to discuss N.Korea sanctions Thursday

A meeting between US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and officials from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea set for Thursday in NY has been postponed and will be rescheduled "when our respective schedules permit", the US State Department said on Wednesday.

"We will reconvene when our respective schedules permit".

In announcing the meeting with Kim Yong-chol on Sunday, Pompeo said he expected to "make some real progress" including on laying the groundwork for a second summit between Trump and Kim Jong-un.

The State Department had just one day earlier confirmed that Pompeo would meet in NY with Kim Yong Chol - one of the North Korean leader's right-hand men - to discuss progress toward a denuclearization pact and to work to arrange a second summit following historic talks between Trump and Kim in June. North Korea is also seeking a peace treaty with the United States and South Korea that will formally end the 1950-53 Korean War that split the communist North from the democratic South.

U.S. critics say that North Korea has yet to make any concrete concessions and it has rejected demands for what it described as its "unilateral disarmament".

Washington says it takes North Korea's human rights abuses very seriously, but that now is the time to focus its efforts on getting North Korea denuclearized. North Korea's propaganda services have not mentioned the meeting.

Yonhap said Ri had told the Vietnamese government that North Korea hoped to learn from Vietnam's model of development.

Kim Jong-un and Pompeo during their October 7 talks in Pyongyang, along with discussing a potential second North-U.S. summit, agreed to hold working-level talks, but Choe has yet to hold such talks with Biegun.

We start with some news just in within the past hour or so.

The State Department had been touting an agreement signed by Pompeo during the last U.S.

A think tank affiliated with the foreign ministry in Pyongyang warned Friday that the regime could resume nuclear work if the US side didn't relax its economic blockade.

While Republicans maintained control of the Senate, the Democrats now have the opportunity to block Trump's agenda and open his administration to intense scrutiny.

Some analysts suggest a domestically weakened Trump may impact his foreign policy, even test his North Korean diplomatic gambit.

But the deal has resulted in few tangible results, other than the US suspension of some military exercises with South Korea, and North Korea's stated dismantlement of certain nuclear and missile testing sites, which the USA says falls short of its expectations.
