WWE superstars reportedly uncomfortable about performing in Saudi Arabia

The shows are part of a 10-year, multi-million dollar deal between WWE and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Its next event, The Crown Jewel, will see the likes of Triple H and Shawn Michaels come out of retirement for a tag-team match against the Undertaker and Kane, who recently won a mayoral election.

Oliver, specifically, called out Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman - also known as MBS - for attempting to paint a portrait of a more progressive nation.

In the past week, WWE's relationship with Saudi Arabia, which includes a massive money deal worth almost $50 million, has come under fire from the mainstream world and has drawn criticism from fans online and even United States Senators. The company released a statement on Thursday saying they are "monitoring the situation", but no additional word has been put out at this time.

If wrestlers with the WWE are indeed expressing "discomfort" with plans to perform in Saudi Arabia next month, as an anonymous-sourced Sports Illustrated article says today, last night's excoriating report by HBO's John Oliver could only have pumped them up even more.

Blumenthal joins a chorus of senators from both sides of the American political spectrum in advising the WWE to re-think its relations with Saudi Arabia in the wake of the Khashoggi disappearance.

"Trump's intense bromance with MBS is bad news because when you set no boundaries on an oppressive regime, they are always going to ask themselves, 'How much can we get away with here?' And as we saw this week, the answer to that may well be 'pretty much anything'".

Saudi Arabia has repeatedly denied that Jamal Koshoggi was murdered in their consulate.
