Liverpool are better than last season, says Silva

Manchester City ran away with the league last season, but it was Liverpool who handed them their first defeat of the season.

A flawless start of seven straight wins in all competitions has come undone in the past week with defeats to Chelsea and Napoli in the Champions League, either side of a draw with Chelsea on league duty last weekend.

However, he said the 27-year-old is not the best all-round striker in the Premier League.

Since then the Reds have strengthened significantly and they look like genuine title contenders themselves this season.

They have won the past three matches between the sides, their 4-3 victory in January at Anfield being probably the best Premier League game of last season, and both legs of the Champions League quarter-final between them.

"I think the best teams bounce back from a defeat and that's what we'll be looking to do", he said.

With Kevin De Bruyne unlikely to return straight to the starting lineup the onus will remain on the Spaniard to keep City ticking, and the former England global is likely to be given the task of stopping him. "I know how they fight", he said, adding, "go to Anfield, win, lose, whatever".

But he insists Sunday is their chance to make a statement in their bid to retain the Premier League for the first time in the club's history. "Benjamin Mendy trained with us today and is in contention". The season has just started so there is so long to go.

A win on Sunday would be massive for Liverpool both in terms of going back to the top of the Premier League as well as building confidence to carry through the global break and into the next run of fixtures.

"One of the toughest tests you'll get all season is Man City, so taking three points from them for yourself can be big going forward".

Naby Keita of Liverpool during a training session at Melwood Training Ground on October 5, 2018 in Liverpool, England.

With Jordan Henderson likely to take his place in the midfield three, that energy and pressing will be lost to a deeper and more reserved player.

Are you kidding me? I suspect he won't change and will hope Klopp's side are exhausted from the midweek trip to Napoli.
