Second Kavanaugh Accuser Insists on FBI Probe, Attorney Says

U.S. president Donald Trump has denounced Democratic efforts to block Brett Kavanaugh's Supreme Court confirmation as a cynical "con job" and launched a dismissive attack on a second woman accusing the nominee of sexual misconduct in the 1980s.

WASHINGTON | Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh declared in a televised interview that he never sexually assaulted anyone in high school or at any other time in his life and didn't even attend a party where one accuser said he assaulted her.

"The second accuser has nothing". She said they were playing a drinking game at the time and admits there are gaps in her memory of that night.

Since Ramirez's account became public, GOP lawmakers and Kavanaugh supporters, including President Donald Trump, have dug in.

The declarations were released by Ford's lawyers a day before she and Kavanaugh are scheduled to appear a high-stakes hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Ford alleges that Kavanaugh tried removing her clothes during a party when they were in high school.

In an interview Monday night with Fox News...

The sharp exchanges on the Senate floor came one day after Kavanaugh appeared on US cable television - an unprecedented move for a Supreme Court nominee - to refute all allegations of sexual misconduct.

The Alaska senator, who still hasn't decided how she'll vote on Ford's nomination, told CNN on Friday she plans to wait until after Thursday's testimony from Ford and Kavanaugh before deciding whether to back his nomination.

Mr McConnell expressed his confidence despite several Republican senators apparently having reservations about whether they would vote to confirm Judge Kavanaugh.

Trump said he was "ok with that", but again defended Kavanaugh as a "gem". But #MeToo has also been about believing survivors, and the treatment of Kavanaugh's accusers raises questions about whether that part of the mission remains largely unfulfilled.

Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh is expected to get a committee vote this week, in the face of accusations of sexual misconduct - including one from a Coloradan. "I don't mean, 'Oh gee, I am a little unhappy.' They are devastated", he said earlier on Tuesday. They joined Ford's lawyers in charging that by hiring a sex crimes prosecutor, Republicans were out to intimidate Ford at Thursday's hearing.

"How anybody that's allegedly educated and worked themselves into the position of being a senator can have such an inane assumption is insane", Gavin said.

"The truth is I've never sexually assaulted anyone, in high school or otherwise", Kavanaugh said.

As of Tuesday afternoon, a Republican aide told Fox News the committee reserves its right to have counsel ask questions of Ford but beyond that has not determined how to proceed.

"It wouldn't surprise me if she would agree to do that", he said.

He also accused Judge Kavanaugh of misleading senators in previous hearings.

"I would defer to the chairman but I don't think we would do it on Thursday", Cornyn said. A major slip-up could endanger Kavanaugh's confirmation and create political pain for the GOP in the midterm elections.

'I look forward eagerly to hearing from both Dr. Ford and Judge Kavanaugh under oath this Thursday morning. And there remained concern among aides and Trump himself about how Kavanaugh would hold up facing far fiercer questioning from Senate Democrats, according to a White House official not authorized to speak publicly.
