Deputy shoots gunman at Del Mar Racetrack before Ice Cube concert

KFMB-TV says no other injuries were reported as of Sunday evening.

The department says in a news release that the man, whose name and age were not given, came to the ticket window at the Del Mar Fairgrounds about 6:40 p.m. When he did not cease his aggression after the tasing, the sheriffs opened fire and wounded the suspect, according to witnesses.

The alleged shooter was reportedly taken down by police before being rushed to hospital with gun shot wounds.

The shooting took place during the 10th race.

The shooting happened close to an area within the race track where rapper Ice Cube is scheduled to perform a sold out show later on Sunday night.

The Sheriff's Homicide Detail will give another media briefing when more information is available.

When sheriff's deputies responded to the confrontation, Elizarraras pulled out "a silver-plated semi-automatic handgun" and fired "several shots" into a crowd just outside the Del Mar Fairgrounds.

In addition to the Ice Cube concert, the venue's schedule included a full day of races.

The Union-Tribune reports in a broadcast of the track's final race of the day that was posted on Twitter, an announcer can be heard saying, "There's gunfire at the track", as horses move along the turf course.

A man was shot outside an Ice Cube concert, and seconds after he went down you hear a fan ask, "Can I get a refund?"

As is our special events protocol, substantial law enforcement and private security was on site in anticipation of the event.
