Jose Mourinho hopes Pogba 'understands why he was good' in Russia

Pogba, 25, produced a number of scintillating performances as France clinched their first World Cup triumph since 1998.

Mourinho added: "To win the World Cup can only be a positive thing".

Even if pundits decide to keep nitpicking at one of the most talented players in the world, they'll never be able to take away this World Cup victory from him.

"It's about him understanding why he was so good, especially in the second part of the competition", he said.

After a falling out with manager Jose Mourinho that looks like it is beyond fix, Pogba was initially believed to have been offered to Spanish side Barcelona, who are in need of midfield replacements after the departure of Andres Iniesta and Paulinho.

Though the world cup is over, the fever is yet to go down.

For a team managed by a man known for resilience as a defensive midfielder in his playing days, it would seem fitting that he would win the competition again - 20 years later - with a team unmistakably shaped in his image.

The player has not been consistent at Old Trafford, while earlier reports claimed that the midfielder and Mourinho clashed in the dressing room.

"I hope he understands why he was very good". "They needed to focus on the job for their national team". I don't give a shit, we're not going home. "I sent a nice message before the World Cup and during it I did not disturb anyone".

En route to the 2018 FIFA World Cup final, France superstar Paul Pogba delivered an inspiring speech to his teammates ahead of their round of 16 fixture against Lionel Messi's Argentina. "Apart from (Olivier) Giroud, (Hugo) Lloris and maybe one or two others that I don't have in mind, they are all young".

Pogba netted six times in 37 appearances for United last season, while providing 10 assists across his Premier League outings.
