Trump says USA team in NKorea to plan summit

Across Asia, administration officials have been dispatched to carry out Trump's directive.

The meeting came amid doubts over the prospect of the US-North Korea summit, which US President Donald Trump had initially made a decision to cancel. Aides are cautiously optimistic this time will be different, even as they continue to express private misgivings about the compressed timeline to arrange the meeting.

She says preparations are moving ahead for "a meeting" between the two leaders.

"The meeting is only the second between South Korea's Moon Jae-in and the North's Kim Jong-un", the news agency reports.

While the United States did not announce the delegation's members, The Washington Post reported that Sung Kim, a former USA ambassador to South Korea and former nuclear negotiator with the North, had been called in from his posting as envoy to the Philippines to lead the preparations.

Graham told radio host Hugh Hewitt that Trump felt North Korea was "playing him" and so he cancelled the meeting.

The spy chiefs from both sides were at the meeting according to the photos.

"We would like to make known to the U.S. side once again that we have the intent to sit with the USA side to solve problem (s) regardless of ways at any time", said Kim in comments published Friday by the country's state-run news agency KCNA.

Trump began walking back the cancellation, and on Sunday he announced that USA officials were in North Korea making arrangements for the summit.

Trump then told White House reporters as he headed to Marine One the June 12 summit could still take place.

Meanwhile, a spokeswoman for Trump said on Saturday that a White House team is still heading to Singapore this weekend to work on logistics for the Trump-Kim summit, in case the meeting is reset.

But in recent weeks the summit had been thrown into doubt by increasingly bellicose rhetoric from both top USA administration officials and Pyongyang.

Instead, those details would be hammered out at the working level in the months and years to come.

Putin said that "if you don't behave aggressively and if you don't corner North Korea, the result that we need will be achieved faster than many would think, and at less cost". The two met on the northern side of the line. And on a third track was a White House logistical group sent to Singapore on Sunday to prepare in case the summit takes place. Teams had already been surveying hotel ballrooms and other possible locations for the meeting when Trump declared it canceled last week.

"At the talks there were in-depth exchanges of opinions to tackle the matters which should be resolved to quickly carry out the Panmunjom Declaration agreed upon at the third North-South summit and to realize the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula and achieve regional peace, stability and prosperity", KCNA said. Trump cited hostile comments from top North Korean officials as his reason for scrapping the meeting, as well as concern about the country's commitment to giving up its nuclear weapons.
